Any suggestions to be more "green" at home and save money?

There are lots of ways. Don't waste energy on heating and cooling (keep it all in the house), use friendlier products, plant a garden…..the list goes on and on. Down below is a link to an article with alot of other suggestions.

How come mint Aero Bubbles stopped being green. is it to save money?

i thought that was what made his product stand out and i liked it a lot.

The last time I had one here in Canada it was still green in side, but the EU has stopped them from using artifical colours in some products.

share your silly or fun ways to save money for your wedding?

What are some fun ways you’re saving your nickels and dimes for your wedding?
Any ideas you want to share with other couples, we all could do with some money saving tips.

Here’s what my Fiance and I came up with.

Recycling- lots of places take back bottles and cans. My future mother in law used to throw her’s out now she saves them for us. We put bags of recycling in the shed and the end of the month we bring it back. Usually it’s less than $10 but every bit helps. The money we get from the recycling goes towards the decorations.

Getting rid of unused house hold items.- We were going to have a yard sale in the spring. but we decided against it. Instead we started selling unused items though online local classifieds. We’ve been able to make space in our small house and put some money into the " Flower fund"

Freecycle- I’ve used freecycle in the past and I love it. Many communities have freecycle groups that allow you to give away items you no longer need and look for items you need. We’ve been able to save money finding items we want for no cost. And we’ve even been lucky finding some wedding items that we needed.

Laundry money jar- You leave change in your pockets it goes in the money jar. My fiance is always leaving money in his pockets so all those pennies will start adding up.

Any other suggestions?

We pay ourselves an allowance and whatever is left at the end of the week goes into the change jar - pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters - even dollars and larger bills! We manage to save about $300/month!

Also we cut going out to one night a week and we choose one activity -dinner or a movie and not both. We still believe in treating ourselves to a date night.

We make sure to go grocery shopping only once a week so that we don’t spend as much on food. I notice that a few trips to the market become costly versus one trip to the commissary saves us about 100/week.

You Freecycle we Craigslist! Gotta love it!

Great tips, thanks for sharing, maybe someone will get some use out of mine :)

what are some ways to save money for stanford?

i am a junior in high school right now, and in total, my life savings is $10…. pretty bad huh? i dont have a bank account, since my mom wont let open one. she says its not worth it to open a savings account for a small amount of money, since it might interfere with my eligibility for financial aid later on. and i cant get a job, since i spend all my time with school (literally- i go to school, have tennis practice after, go home and study till after midnight, and then sleep). what can i do to save money? my allowance is $15 a week…. i really want to attend stanford, and think i have a high chance of being accepted. its only the cost that worries me…

Depending on how much your parents make you might end up being eligible for grants, or low-cost loans. Almost everyone who goes to college these days ends up taking out several loans. The best advice I can give for your situation would be to save your $15 each week in a jar or something. Every once in awhile you can spend some of it (you have a life, obviously) but try to save the majority. This will at least give you some spending money for food and what not when you get to school.

EDIT - Also, I don’t think having a savings account will interfere with your financial aid. Having no money in savings or a very smal amount in savings is practically the same thing. Try to get one so you can at least gain some interest.

Save on food by clipping coupons and doing more cooking rather than buying expensive preprepared meals.

How much money do you save per month?

Situation $35000 salary
How much money do you think I can save per month and what should my saving strategy be?
Average rent for an apartment, gas expenses, etc must be taken into account for a single person.
Any other financial tips welcome, thanks!

How much you can save depends on a number of things. I would have to know how much you spend on basic needs. But when I do my budget it looks something like this:
Rent/Utilities- $700
Student Loan- $100
Car Insurance- $56
Gym Membership- $37
Lunches (at work)- $100
Groceries- $200
Gas- $75
Credit Card- $75
Savings- $400
Cell- $60
Short term savings- $50
Car Maintenance- $25
Dining Out- $50

I make a little bit more than you do, but I save $400 a month. The easiest way to do this is open a savings account with ING or some other high interest yielding account and have a certain amount taken out every two weeks. As soon as my pay check hits the bank on Friday, ING takes $200 and puts it in my savings account. Also MSN Money has some great articles and tricks for spending, especially the Women In Red forum.

Hope that’s helpful.

How do you save money properly with so much going in different dirrections?

I just bought a house and thankfully spend less than I make. However, with Insurances, Gas prices, and wanting to still invest, whats the best way to save? I had opened up one savings account for a Christmas club savings, and wonder is it smart to open up other accounts and earmark them for whatever I may need……..i.e property taxes, car insurance, vacation fund, etc. so that I won’t spend the money on other things? What are some other strategies?

use excel to chart your expenses on a month to month basis. at that point, you’ll know how much to allocate towards bills and how much is left over. once you have a consistent idea of the latter, you should set up an automatic deposit program, i.e. ING Direct offers such a service. you essentially send money there, specifying a frequency. don’t apply for too many accounts. that’s going to hurt your credit.

How much money do you save on oil by keeping your thermostat at home at a lower temperature?

My parents insist on keeping our house about 65 degrees in the winter in order to save on oil, which in turn saves money. About how much more would it cost to heat the house say 5 more degrees?
The house was built it the 1950, so It’s probably not very well insulated like newer homes would be.

1 degree in my house costs $40-$60 a month

How do you save money to relocate to another state, if you are living paycheck to paycheck?

I am hoping to relocate to another state after finding a new job that pays the same or more than I make now. I am living paycheck to paycheck due to extensive debt and expenses due to the cost of living increasing. Moving far off costs money. How can I save when there is barely anything to save? Any ideas?

Even those living from paycheck to paycheck can find a way to cut their monthly expenses. From cancelling the newspaper or cable TV to cutting out your morning Starbucks coffee or vending machine snacks.
It may not seem like much but it all adds up.
