share your silly or fun ways to save money for your wedding?

What are some fun ways you’re saving your nickels and dimes for your wedding?
Any ideas you want to share with other couples, we all could do with some money saving tips.

Here’s what my Fiance and I came up with.

Recycling- lots of places take back bottles and cans. My future mother in law used to throw her’s out now she saves them for us. We put bags of recycling in the shed and the end of the month we bring it back. Usually it’s less than $10 but every bit helps. The money we get from the recycling goes towards the decorations.

Getting rid of unused house hold items.- We were going to have a yard sale in the spring. but we decided against it. Instead we started selling unused items though online local classifieds. We’ve been able to make space in our small house and put some money into the " Flower fund"

Freecycle- I’ve used freecycle in the past and I love it. Many communities have freecycle groups that allow you to give away items you no longer need and look for items you need. We’ve been able to save money finding items we want for no cost. And we’ve even been lucky finding some wedding items that we needed.

Laundry money jar- You leave change in your pockets it goes in the money jar. My fiance is always leaving money in his pockets so all those pennies will start adding up.

Any other suggestions?

We pay ourselves an allowance and whatever is left at the end of the week goes into the change jar – pennies, nickels, dimes, quarters – even dollars and larger bills! We manage to save about $300/month!

Also we cut going out to one night a week and we choose one activity -dinner or a movie and not both. We still believe in treating ourselves to a date night.

We make sure to go grocery shopping only once a week so that we don’t spend as much on food. I notice that a few trips to the market become costly versus one trip to the commissary saves us about 100/week.

You Freecycle we Craigslist! Gotta love it!

Great tips, thanks for sharing, maybe someone will get some use out of mine :)

we stopped going out to eat, grocery store is for us now, and instead of going every two weeks, stocking up, and having food go bad, we go every few days.

also, we go a few days without milk sometimes. just buy it when we feel like milk.

We are saving over $200 a month by not going out!

Like the first poster, we’ve cut out going out. It sucks but it creates more intimate together time and improves our relationship. We’ve also cut out wedding programs. No need to waste more paper, time and money.

I got a part time job to pay for my wedding. I picked something fun and nonstressful where I could get a discount on stuff i needed and a change of pace from my regular job. I took a part time receptionist job at the salon where I got my hair done. I worked about 15 hours a week, made enough for most of the reception, got all my products half off (Big savings right there!) and they did the bridal party hair for free!

I guess I really Lucked out!

I work in a flower shop so I get them for wholesale prices, since i am a designer i can design all my stuff and get most of my reception and ceremony supplies, flowers and other things through wholesale.

my fiances family friend is a baker and is making our cake for us as our wedding gift.

my fiance comes from a family of chefs and is one himself. so we can get all the food from wholesale, from a big supplier. we also are preparing it ourselves. we are also going to get all of our reception good here as well for way cheaper. plates, cups, napkins. all biodegradable

we possibly are going to barrow ceremony chairs from his uncle that has some.

we got our reception and ceremony sight for free since my parents pay for a homeowner association.

we also stopped buying stuff. we cut back on our groceries and have been eating very basic. peanut butter and jelly, sandwiches, ramen. like others we shop often and by less so food doesn’t go to waste. also stopped eating out. bring my own food to work instead of eating out. i now Make my own coffee at home instead of going to the cafe. started washing our laundry in cold water, change jar, turn out light, heaters, and power switches when we arn’t using them or if we are not home.
    believe it or not
it all helps us save tons of money!!

I also like to use free cycle as well.
