Yes. It depends on what device as to whether it is worth putting it on a power strip. Unplugging all the time is not good for your wall socket or plugs so use a power strip. Get a Kill A Watt meter for about $30 bucks and it will tell you what is drawing power. Directv receiver like mine draw about 40 watts when "off", not good. Put power strips on all your entertainment center stuff, get the surge suppressor type, and it will protect your equipment too. Leaving the coffee maker in the warming mode uses a lot of juice too.
References :
http://doodlebugs100.googlepages.com/howtocutyourhouseholdbillspainlessly

very much so! For every Little bit of inconvenience to disconnect every electrical component you can think of, will benefit you greatly. i had a surveyer come out to determine why my light bill was so much and he disclosed just that, too
many things plugged in that I don't immediately need. In fact, I have a clean air machine as well and he said they pull more electricity than many other components, nor does a ceiling fan. But one last bit of info. is anything that has a light on it when not in use is drawing electric currents.
References :
I wouldn't worry to much about cable boxes. I think when you turn them off at power button they go into a power saving mode.

As for other devices.

They have various gadgets out to help you with your problem! First I found is something called a green plug. Its suppose to help cut back power usage on stuff like refrigerators ect.

Another is a Kw/hr monitor it records the usage per item.

Check these out see if its something you willing to try out.

Both links are from Amazon but i'm sure you can look at places like radio shack or hardware stores.
References :
http://www.amazon.com/Greenplug-a1-GreenPlug-Energy-Saver/dp/B000FFSLRY

Some electronic devices use elecrticity constantly if they are plugged in, even if you aren't using them. But they don't use that much

Unless you have a couple hundred tvs, it doesn't really matter that much
