What are some good strategies for saving money?
I work full-time and have a few hobbies but lots of bills so my money is basically gone before it gets to my account. Then there is just the general expenses sucha food and fuel and I’m pretty much busted a*** and scrapping by on the bones of my a*** and I try to pay off my credit card each pay but I end up needing money so I spend what I have paid off my card normally only $50 but it helps when you have nothing left. Please help
Yours is a tough question but I would imagine that everyone is asking themselves the same thing these days.
I suggests you keep a record of every dollar you spend during the month. Every penny, every McDonald’s lunch, every cup of coffee. Every movie, every rental. And all the bills, rent, electric, gas, cable, etc.
At the end of the month you will have a good picture of what you spend and where.
Make a spreadsheet and put down next to each expenditure. Essential, necessary, discretionary.
Essentials are things like Rent, Electric and gas. Do you have a land line and a cell phone? Get rid of the land line if you can. A lot of people have already done it.
You might find that you are spending $200 or more on eatting lunch out. Brown bagging it can save a lot of money. It’s not cool, but $150 in your pocket is.
Look at your cable bill if you have one. How many movie channels, and extra channels do you get? What do they cost? They really aren’t as essential as you might think. I did away with the HBO’s a good number of years ago. I don’t miss it.
Coffee from 7-11 can taste just as good as coffee from Starbucks, and cost $2 less. 20 of those a month and you’ve ‘found’ $40.
You don’t have to live like a Monk, but you don’t have to spend like a Hollywood A Lister either.
Just some thoughts.
Best of luck.
